Residential Archipelago

Student housing, housing and sport facilities, Carouge, Switzerland
2015

The competition asks for a high-density residential development in the lush suburban outskirts of Carouge. We are proposing a ‚campus typology‘ for this housing, which will establish a flow of landscape and greenery amongst the building volumes while achieving the high number of units requested. Within the primary shape of the circle a great variety of different housing types are offered. They range from townhouses with gardens, to over-maisonette units, to social housing flats, to live-work studios as well as student co-housing. The careful articulation of the different facades with their toothed wheel geometry offers exterior balconies or loggias to most units and a careful differentiation amongst the different buildings. Shopping and shared sports facilities complement the housing programme. A parking garage links the main buildings underground.
